Here is a list of some of the more commonly used natural Carrier Oils, which can be used to make homemade natural chemical free body wash, shampoo, hair conditioner, moisturizer, hand wash body lotions and more. As you will see, they all have great health benefits too. Combining these Carrier Oils with certain Essential Oils you can make most, if not all, of your beauty products as mentioned above and more, including lip balm, aftersun, suntan lotion, lotion/cream to reduce inflammation, reduce wrinkles, and reduce scars! There will be recipes to follow (once I have tested them out).
Sweet Almond Oil - It is extracted from the dried fruit of the almond tree. and rich in Vitamin E which means it is very nourishing for your skin and helps repair damage in the collagen layer of the skin, making facial skin smooth and supple and reduces wrinkles, it also regenerates new skin cells and keep moisture in, so great for dry skin. It is also a great natural antioxidant, so helps protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun, and it's high concentrations of oleic and linoleic acids help to relieve inflammation and soothe irritated skin.
Coconut Oil - It comes from the fruit of the coconut tree, it is a super-oil full of antioxidants and is antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, it nourishes hair, nail and skin, it contains 50% of lauric acid which means that it retains a long shelf life and can improve good cholesterol (HDL). It comes in 2 forms fractionated which is in liquid form, or ideally, unrefined which comes in solid form at room temperature, so great for balms, and creams, (I use this for making my own face moisturizer, at first it seems a bit odd but once on your finger tips it melts fine and is easy to apply - recipe to follow soon)
Jojoba Oil - Is extracted from the seeds of the Jojoba Tree. It is high in long omega-9 fatty acid, which closely resembles human sebum which waterproofs and lubricates the skin and hair. It is naturally anti-fungal and has a long shelf life. It can be used as a natural make up remover, - so stop buying those chemical laden removers, and just get Jojoba Oil!. Is also a good as an aftersun, if your skin is red and inflamed.
Olive Oil - Is extracted from the fruit of the Olive Tree. As it is non-greasy it is great for almost any skin or hair type as it does not clog skin pores or leave your hair greasy. It is also great for dandruff, frizzy hair and dry skin. With its high oleic acid content it is excellent for your heart and cardiovascular system and can actually lower bad (LDL) cholesterol and increase good (HDL) cholesterol. it is an anti-inflammatory and helps to reduce resistance to insulin. Unrefined is best s it retains more of its natural properties.
Argan Oil - It is extracted from the fruit of the Moroccan Argan Tree (Argania spinosa). Rich in antioxidants, Vitamin A and E, and oleic and linoleic fatty acids, It has great great for regenerating skin cells, therefore has great anti-aging properties and promotes hair growth and repairs hair damage and split ends, it promotes healthy cuticles and nails, it reduces the appearance of stretch marks and scars and is beneficial for healing inflammation and damage caused by UV rays of the sun, need i say more..... it goodie.
Grapeseed Oil - It is extracted from the seeds of grapes. It is packed with antioxidants, is in proteins, minerals, vitamin E and linoleic acid. It nourishes hair without making it greasy and helps to combat dandruff. As its a light non greasy oil, it is great for acne-prone and oily skin.
Avocado Oil - It is made from the Avocado fruit. It contains palmitoleic acid, which is naturally occuring in the fatty tissue under the skin, which means is absorbs easily, so its very nourishing and is good for the more mature skin that has thinned with age. It is high in oleic and linoleic fatty acids and antioxidants as well at vitamins A, D & E, making it a good anti-inflammatory and great for skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
